The new restrictions come after the spread of the infection again, especially in the north of England and two of Britain's top scientific advisers have warned that the country may soon face a situation of 50,000 new cases a day, unless swift action is taken.

And now new rules are expected around a number of social contexts.

According to The Telegraph, the new rules are expected to include that pubs, bars and restaurants will be forced to close as early as 10 pm in the evenings.

In addition, only table service will be allowed.

No audience at football matches

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will also urge people to work from home if they have the opportunity, according to Michael Gove, the British Home Secretary.

Gove also announces that the plan to allow audiences at sports events from October 1 is now postponed indefinitely.

- We want to be able to have open arenas and we want to be able to let people watch football or other sports on site, but as the situation is right now we have to be careful and to open up right now would be irresponsible, he says.
