The Malian state celebrates, on September 22, the 60th anniversary of its independence.

On June 20, 1960 in Dakar, the French colors gave way to those of a new state: the Federation of Mali, which included two former colonies of French West Africa, French Sudan and Senegal.

It was first of all the Dakar assembly which voted for the independence of Senegal as a single entity on August 20, 1960. Léopold Senghor then became the first president of the Republic of Senegal.

A month later, French Sudan in turn proclaimed its independence and under the leadership of Modibo Keïta, the Republic of Mali was born on September 22, 1960.
