The County Administrative Board is primarily critical of the fact that the 16-storey hotel will not be adapted to the area that has been designated as a national interest for its cultural environment.

It is pointed out, among other things, that the hotel will be higher than the tower of St. Nicolai Church, which has been the highest point in the area since the 15th century.

Chairman of Halmstad Municipality's community building committee Jenny Axelsson (C), has been asked to stand for an interview, but has declined.

In a text message, however, she writes as follows:

- Before the proposal was completed, an early consultation was held with the County Administrative Board, an element that aims to assess early on whether an environmental impact assessment for the area is needed.

It is remarkable that the County Administrative Board then did not have special views on it.

The County Administrative Board's Peter Svelenius, on the other hand, claims that it was not a consultation, but rather a conversation.

- It is only now that we have come to a sharp situation, he says.

In the clip above, Emma Östlund, county antiquarian and Peter Svelenius, planning architect at the County Administrative Board of Halland, talk about why they are skeptical about hotel construction.
