Marika Bret, HRD of Charlie Hebdo who had to leave her home because of threats in the midst of the trial of the attacks of January 7, 2015, regretted on Europe 1, Tuesday, that "her political family, the left", according to her "gave up "the fight against secularism.

INTERVIEW

"We must realize that today it is a difficulty to defend secularism, which is improbable".

Charlie Hebdo's human resources director, Marika Bret, was forced to leave her home following "specific and detailed threats" received on September 14 by security officers who have been protecting her for nearly five years.

On Europe 1 Tuesday morning, she wondered "what is happening in our society" to get there and lamented that we "can no longer talk about secularism quietly".

"My political family, the left, I find abandoned this fight," she was moved.

"What is going on in our society?"

"I was in court, I was leaving the hearings and I wanted to go home. The police officers explained to me that I had to pack my bag and leave my home", she said, with the aim of "giving the alert".

"I let you imagine my reaction of amazement, of incomprehension. My first reaction was: 'Have we come to this? There is such an unbearable climate of threats that I have to leave my home?'", S saddened by the HRD, forced to take refuge with friends.

"Why do we come to this, what is happening in our society?" She asked.

"I have answers on the whole. I work at Charlie, also in a feminist newspaper, I am above all and above all an activist of secularism, of freedom of expression", recalled Marika Bret.

However, she notes, "we have come to no longer be able to talk about secularism calmly, to no longer have the same definition of secularism, to no longer being able to say that we can live with or without gods ... It is a matter of secular emancipation in truth, and of faith. We can no longer even approach these subjects quietly ".

"In this fight, where I have anger and anger, it is that my political family, the left, I found abandoned this fight", reproached Marika Bret.

"We must realize that today it is a difficulty to defend secularism, which is incredible!"

The director of human resources gave the example of the play taken from "Charb's posthumous letter,

Letter to the crooks of Islamophobia playing into the hands of racists

, which is encountering difficulties that I never suspected, did not even imagine. ! "

The latter was notably deprogrammed at the University of Lille in 2017 by "a university president for fear of student excesses," she recalled.

"We are above all citizens"

While a bill on separatism is in preparation on the side of the presidential majority, it seems essential to return to the notion of "citizenship".

"What we have in common, which is wonderful in this country, is the quality of citizenship. We must stop getting into debates and identity assignments. We are above all citizens."

Because what happened to her, she said, "can happen to anyone."

"I've been worried for years. I continue to be worried because the ability to unite around this citizenship seems more and more complicated, but this is the only way out," insisted Marika Bret.

"I am lucky to have worked with a great team, to have known Cabu, to have known what this capacity for laughter allows - that famous side step when you are in front of a wall -, and to have shared with Charb. This ability to laugh awake, it feels good, and it makes you think, ”she concluded.
