Five new positive cases for Covid-19 have been detected within the workforce of Lyon-Asvel basketball players, the club announced Tuesday in a press release Tuesday, specifying that the players are placed in isolation.

Asvel had declared a case of Covid-19 within its workforce during tests carried out before the final of the Coupe de France which was to be played at Paris-Bercy on Friday and which had been canceled at the last moment.

"The workforce has six cases currently, including a player from the training center who regularly evolves in the professional group," said the club.

"The players follow the health protocol in place. They are in isolation and are the subject of support by the Lyon medical staff in conjunction with the health authorities," added the women's Asvel.

The club also decided to set up a "psychological framework in order to" support the group in the emotional management of this exceptional situation. "

"As a precautionary measure, all the sports staff, as well as the administrative staff in direct contact with the players, have also been placed in isolation. Everyone will be tested again next Tuesday", concluded Asvel .

The Lyonnaises were supposed to travel to Charnay (Rhône) on Saturday for the first day of the Women's League.

The federal health group will have to rule on the possible postponement of the match.

After the detection of three positive cases for Covid-19 in Bourges and one case at Asvel, the federal health group had given the green light for the maintenance of the final of the Coupe de France in Bercy.

The players of the two teams, supported by their staff and their management, had decided not to play the match, because according to them the criteria of the protocol which had motivated the continuation of the match had not been specified.
