The city of La Rochelle in the Charente-Maritime region on the French west coast was the scene of a strange and unfamiliar hunt.

In a report on the incident, the French newspaper "lepoint" stated that two thieves robbed a store in the city center of La Rochelle on the afternoon of 19 September, and then fled;

But one of them ended up in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, specifically in the Old Port of the city, before police officers arrested him when he came out of the water.

One of the passers-by pushed the thief into the water after the guard chased him away from the shop in which the robbery took place, which made it easier for police officers to arrest him.

The chase began when the security guard of the store belonging to the famous "Sephora" chain that sold perfumes and cosmetics, noticed the robbery and pursued the two thieves, and when one of them was running at the old port, a passerby caught him and pushed him into the water to prevent him from escaping.

During the chase, policemen in the vicinity were supervising a march in the city to mark International Peace Day, and as soon as the thief came out of the water, they were waiting for him to be arrested and interrogated.

The other thief chose to surrender himself when he saw his colleague in the water, and they were escorted to the city police station.
