Abu Dhabi Police revealed that 310 people were exposed to running accidents on pedestrian lines during the past year, due to drivers not giving priority to pedestrians crossing in the places designated for their crossing, warning of the danger of this violation to the safety and lives of road users.

It stated that it increased the penalty for causing an accident due to not giving priority to pedestrians, in accordance with Law No. 5 of 2020 regarding the seizure of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where the vehicle causing the accident is seized until the payment of the financial value of 5000 dirhams to release the seizure, and a period of three months to pay it, and after that The vehicle is referred for sale in the public auction, in addition to applying the penalty stipulated in the Federal Traffic Law, which is a fine of 500 dirhams and six traffic points.

She said that the inclusion of the violation of causing an accident due to not giving priority to pedestrians came after careful studies of the reality of statistics of accidents and traffic violations committed by drivers during the past years, with the aim of enhancing traffic safety, and aggravating violations with the increase in the number of vehicles and urban development, and reducing the commission of violations.

The police emphasized that increasing the fines is aimed at avoiding traffic accidents and reducing the excesses of reckless drivers, which will positively affect the reduction of the causes of deaths in Abu Dhabi.

It urged drivers to pay attention to pedestrian crossing traffic on roads, to reduce speeds, and to give priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing, stressing that the safety and security of pedestrians is a shared responsibility between the pedestrians themselves and drivers on the roads.

Abu Dhabi Police called on pedestrians to adhere to safe passage from the places designated for them, to use bridges and tunnels, and to adhere to pedestrian traffic lights at intersections that work in conjunction with traffic lights to regulate the movement of vehicles.

She warned of the danger of random crossing, which is one of the main reasons for the occurrence of run-over accidents, and the need to adhere to the correct rules of crossing the road, and to ensure that the street is free of vehicles, warning that the pedestrian's failure to adhere to the traffic light, and crossing the road from other than the places designated for their crossing, is a fine offense. 400 dirhams.

It indicated the establishment of many bridges on internal and external roads, improvement of pedestrian crossings, the establishment of surface pathways governed by light signals, and the closing of gaps by making fences on various roads, in order to enhance pedestrian safety.

Abu Dhabi Police violated 15,588 vehicles, for not giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, during the period from the first of January to the end of last June, for not committing to reducing the speed near pedestrian crossing lines and giving them preference in crossing.
