"Venezuela rejects and condemns in front of the international community a new aggression by the US government, which has announced unilateral sanctions against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro without any reason as part of a continuous campaign of aggression against Iran, Venezuela and the entire UN multilateral system," said the head of the Venezuelan Jorge Arreas' Foreign Office.
He stressed that "arrogant actions by the US government" will not prevent Venezuela "from exercising its sovereign right to freely establish economic and trade relations with Iran."
Earlier it became known about the imposition of sanctions against Nicholas Maduro for his cooperation with Iran.
According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Iranian authorities worked with Venezuela to bypass the UN arms embargo.
