China News Service, Beijing, September 21 (Reporter Zhang Ziyang) Regarding the unilateral announcement by the United States that "all Security Council sanctions against Iraq have been restored", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded at a regular press conference in Beijing on the 21st that the United States has already Withdraw from the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and no longer be a participant in the comprehensive agreement.

The letter sent by the United States on August 20 has no legal effect at all, and the United States does not have the power to request the Security Council to activate the "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism.

A reporter asked: The U.S. unilaterally announced on September 19 that in view of the letter sent by the U.S. on August 20 to the Security Council requesting the Security Council to initiate a "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism against Iran, all the Security Council sanctions on Iran have been restored.

What is China's comment?

Wang Wenbin responded that in recent times, my colleagues and I have repeatedly introduced China’s position on the Security Council’s Iranian nuclear issue.

The United States has withdrawn from the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and is no longer a participant in the comprehensive agreement.

The letter sent by the United States on August 20 has no legal effect at all, and the United States does not have the power to request the Security Council to activate the "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism.

The President of the Security Council has concluded that he will not take action on the US request, and the Security Council has so far not taken any action on the launch of the "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism.

Based on the above facts, the Security Council will continue to terminate the relevant sanctions against Iran in accordance with the requirements of Resolution 2231.

In the past weekend, China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and other participants in the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue have respectively sent letters to the President of the Security Council to express their opposition to the United States’ unilateral announcement of the Security Council’s resumption of sanctions on Iran. The EU also issued a statement. This reflects the common position and consensus of the international community.

Wang Wenbin said that the U.S. applies international law if it is in conformity with it and discards it if it fails. It not only fails to abide by the law, it even threatens to coerce other countries with illegal unilateral sanctions.

This arrogant and unreasonable practice has met with widespread dissatisfaction and opposition from the international community.

We hereby advise the United States not to go its own way and go further and further on the road of unilateralism.

Wang Wenbin pointed out that China has noticed the concerns of relevant countries on the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf.

State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi has put forward an initiative in this regard, that is, on the premise of safeguarding the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, all parties shall establish a dialogue platform between regional countries and promote the formation of a political and diplomatic settlement process for safeguarding the Iranian nuclear issue.
