Navalny Calls on Russia to "Return His Clothes": Finding Novichok Gas "Inside and On My Body"

Russian dissident Alexei Navalny and his wife Yulia A.B.

Russian dissident Alexei Navalny announced today, Monday, that traces of the nerve gas "Novichok" were found "inside and on him" that was used to poison him while he was campaigning in Siberia last month.

"Two laboratories in France and Sweden, as well as a private military laboratory in Germany, confirmed the presence of Novichok inside and on my body," Navalny said in a statement on his website.

Navalny today called on the Russian authorities to return the clothes that he wore on the day he was poisoned last month and were removed from him after he was transferred to the hospital in the Russian city of Omsk.

Navalny, arguably Russia's President Vladimir Putin's fiercest opponent over the past decade, fell unconscious on August 20 while flying from Tomsk to his home city of Moscow.

The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, Siberia, where he was transferred to a local hospital, and from there to Germany at a later time.

The Russian authorities said that a local investigation was carried out into the incident and did not reveal any conclusive evidence of this poisoning.

Russia has refused to conduct a broad investigation.

"Exactly a month has passed since they tried to kill me with a chemical weapon," Navalny said, in a statement on his website. "The 30-day period set by law for investigation has expired."

"I demand that my clothes be carefully placed in a plastic bag and returned to me," Navani said, accusing the Russian authorities of seizing his clothes to cover up the poisoning.

He said, "The 30-day period of previous investigations of the full investigations was used to conceal this important evidence."

Navalny, who spent three weeks in a coma after poisoning, posted a picture on his Instagram account today, showing him sitting on a chair on a balcony in the Charité hospital, where he is treated in Germany, with his wife Julia next to him.

He wrote: "On the 26th of August, it has been twenty years since Yulia and I got married ... and I am happy that (the day of the celebration) I missed because I can write today that I know more about love than a month ago."
