No cars or bicycles can be accommodated in the family's garage outside Sigtuna.

Here is instead a combined fish and vegetable farm.

Under the bright red light, all the green that the family with four children needs to be self-sufficient grows and eel moths swim in water tanks.

Fish and plant cultivation in symbiosis

The method is called aquaponics and is a cycle where the fish's feces nourish the water that is pumped out to fertilize the plants.

Then the water is purified again before it goes back to the fish.

For Maja De Bernardo, this is a way to be able to serve the children food that has not been sprayed.

- We save money and we notice it in the flavors, it tastes better to grow it yourself at home, says Maja De Bernardo.
