Faced with the resurgence of the coronavirus on its territory, the prefect of the Rhône announced on Monday new restrictive measures.

Among the latter, the lowering of the public gauge during public events to 1,000 people, or an extension of the wearing of masks in certain towns in the metropolis.

No more than 1,000 people during public events, extension of the mandatory mask and reduced visits to nursing homes: the Rhône prefect announced on Monday new measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the Lyon metropolitan area.

On the other hand, the early closure of bars and restaurants is not planned to date in Lyon, contrary to what has been decided in Marseille or Nice.

Only standing consumption has been banned.

Measures taken for 15 days

"Controls will be strengthened. If we find any breaches of barrier gestures in these establishments, there will be sanctions and I will not hesitate to demand their administrative closure", warned Pascal Mailhos at a press conference.

"These measures are taken for 15 days. If they are not effective enough, we will take more severe ones," he said.

"The goal is to preserve activities as much as possible," noted the prefect.

"It's a bet".

Sale and consumption of alcohol prohibited in the department between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The sale and consumption of alcohol in the street will also be prohibited in the department between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., from Tuesday, as for all the other measures announced, explained the prefect.

As for events bringing together more than 10 people on public roads or in public places, they must be declared to the prefecture.

In nursing homes, visits will now be limited to two people per resident and per week.

"The objective is to protect the most fragile and avoid arriving at reconfinement," insisted Pascal Mailhos.

No more than 1,000 people at public events

In addition, in ten municipalities of the metropolis of Lyon with more than 10,000 inhabitants, including Vaulx-en-Velin, Vénissieux, Caluire, Bron or Ecully, the wearing of a mask becomes compulsory between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m.

This is already the case 24 hours a day in Lyon and Villeurbanne since September 1.

The lowering to 1,000 people of the gauge for public events, against 5,000 today, "also concerns sporting events, both indoors and outdoors," he said.

"This should lead to the cancellation of certain events, such as the Lyon Fair".

Fairgrounds, flea markets or garage sales are also prohibited until further notice.
