Instead of seeking care in hospitals, people over the age of 75 - and who have a great need for care - should be admitted to special elderly clinics.

In this way, the pressure on the hospitals' emergency departments will be reduced and the working environment there will be improved.

- Care in hospitals costs more, and you often get sicker from entering hospitals, says Malin Sjöberg Högrell, regional councilor (L).

The Uppsala Region is investing SEK 15 million in the elderly clinics next year, and SEK 30 million the year after that.

- There will be better care of the elderly, and create increased security, says Malena Ranch, Regional Councilor (MP).

The region held a press conference on Monday about the initiative.
