Luis Suarez is close to signing a contract with Atletico Madrid and putting an end to his career with Barcelona, after weeks of tugging due to the decisions of Dutch coach Ronald Koeman.

Suarez was one of the most prominent names that were nominated to leave the Catalan club as part of the plan to renew the team's blood after the humiliating exit from the Champions League by losing 8-2 to Bayern Munich.

Coman told Suarez that he would not be relied upon in the new season, which opened the way for speculation about the future of the player with a contract with Barcelona until June 2021.

Numerous reports confirmed that the player refuses to leave before receiving the full amount of his dues for the remaining year in the contract, but the Spanish newspapers reported today a sudden agreement to terminate the contract between the two parties without talking about any compensation.

This development came with the confirmation of Marca newspaper (MARCA) that Suárez will sign a two-year contract with Atlético de Madrid in the coming hours, with an annual salary of 9 million euros.

The newspaper pointed out that the delineation of the deal is linked to the exit of Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid, in order to ensure the team's financial balance.

Morata was linked to the Italian Juventus, and according to Marca newspaper, the Spanish capital club will receive 10 million euros in exchange for the transfer of Morata.

Suarez, 33, was ranked second in Barcelona's scorer list last season, behind Argentine captain Lionel Messi.

Suarez has scored 198 goals for Barcelona in 283 games since joining from Liverpool in 2014.
