Xavier Bertrand persists and signs.

If he has not yet officially declared himself a candidate for the 2022 presidential election, the president of the Hauts-de-France region is showing his ambitions more and more clearly.

Without ever explicitly and solemnly declaring his candidacy, the president of Hauts-de-France admitted this Sunday on Europe 1 that he did not intend "to hide behind [his] little finger".

A dredge pushed towards the Republicans

The former minister, who left Les Républicains in 2017, assured that he would not return, but that this party remained his “political family”.

He multiplied the mentions of elected LR.

He also indicated that he would soon see former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Xavier Bertrand stood as a “popular” candidate against an outgoing “liberal Anglo-Saxon” president, whom he had already judged in an interview with the

Parisian on

Saturday “not at ease on sovereign subjects” of security and of immigration.

The mandate of Emmanuel Macron is according to him "a five-year period of turmoil, a five-year period of crises.

The French want appeasement and regain that confidence.

They just want to be reconciled ”.

The decisive regional meeting in March 2021

Xavier Bertrand also described the regional elections of March 2021, during which he will aim for his re-election at the head of Hauts-de-France, as his "meeting of confidence".

“If I win this election”, he explained, “it is therefore that I will have succeeded in winning the confidence of the popular electorate”.
