China News Service, September 20. According to Agence France-Presse, the United States unilaterally stated on the 19th that it had resumed UN sanctions against Iran.

In response, Iran responded on the 20th that sanctions were only implemented in the "imaginary world" of US Secretary of State Pompeo, accusing the United States of "doing nothing wrong" and calling on the United States to fulfill its commitments.

According to reports, the spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Said Khatibzad said, “The whole world is saying nothing has changed.” He also said that the sanctions are only in the “imaginary world” of US Secretary of State Pompeo. Implementation, and said that "this is nothing wrong."

Khatibzad said that Washington was "isolated" and "on the wrong side of history."

He said that Tehran's message to the United States is: "Go back to the international community and fulfill your promise."

According to the report, Khatibzad also expressed the hope that the international community and all countries in the world would "oppose these reckless US actions."

On the 19th local time, Pompeo stated in a statement that according to the "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the sanctions imposed by the United Nations on Iran before the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement was reached on 19 US Eastern Time. It will take effect from 8 o'clock in the evening.

The statement also stated that the United States will announce a series of sanctions enforcement measures in the next few days, and that UN member states will "face consequences" if they fail to comply with the relevant sanctions.

The members of the Security Council, including the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany, which are participants in the Iran nuclear agreement, have repeatedly reiterated that the United States withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement in May 2018 and no longer has the qualifications to initiate the "quick restoration of sanctions" mechanism.

In July 2015, Iran and the six countries on the Iranian nuclear issue (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and signed the United Nations Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, the Iran Nuclear Agreement).

According to the agreement, Iran promised to restrict its nuclear program and enjoy the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy. The international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

The Security Council subsequently passed Resolution 2231, endorsing the Iran nuclear agreement and stipulating that the UN arms embargo on Iran should end on October 18, 2020.
