• Coincidences. Javier Ortega Smith and the president of the Franco Foundation: the two 'liberal' cousins of the new general named by Margarita Robles

The Francisco Franco Foundation has been preparing for months to respond to the government's offensive against them.

Since Pedro Sánchez agreed to the formation of a Government with Pablo Iglesias, they knew that they would soon enter into processing a law, called Democratic Memory, which is tougher than the Historical Memory that José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero approved.

The President of the Government seeks to convert the Valley of the Fallen into a civil cemetery, withdraw Franco's titles and

outlaw the Francisco Franco Foundation.

On Tuesday, September 15, the Council of Ministers approved the draft of a law with 66 articles and 5 points.

However, despite the fact that Sánchez seeks to erase the Franco regime from Spain, the foundation is experiencing

a time of popularity

among Franco supporters.

Thus, as LOC has learned, they have gone from the nearly 800 affiliates that they had before the motion of censure to Rajoy to the

1,500

that they currently have.

Belonging to the foundation is simple.

Simply fill out a document that appears on your website and clarify

how much money you want to help the cause

.

The minimum is 10 euros per quarter, although you can choose the option of making a monthly donation of a larger amount.

There are members who contribute up to 100 euros per month to pay for the operation of the Foundation.

Even a man has donated a house as an inheritance.

Removing the Franco regime from the Government has been positive for the Foundation, whose accounts are more healthy.

They are

the custodians of an important file

of 30,000 documents that can be consulted and that, if the entity closes, it is unknown what would happen to it.

"The question is whether they will be able to steal a private file," says General Chicharro, current president of the foundation.

In his opinion, there is no real possibility that they can close the foundation - "

the Spanish Constitution protects us

," he says.

However, he is cautious because after the exhumation of Franco and the sentence of the Meirás pazo, which concludes that they gave it to the head of state and not to Francisco Franco, he believes that anything can happen.

They do not even rule out moving the headquarters of the entity to another country where they could operate with more freedom.

Meanwhile, the draft law presented in Moncloa includes in the second section of Chapter I

the regulation of "access to public and private funds and archives,

and guaranteeing their access and protection."

So if the law goes ahead, they could consult the file.

Although it does not seem like an easy and fast option because the foundation, thanks to the donations received during this time, is already preparing to give legal battle in court to all the measures taken by the Sánchez Government.
