Gareth Bale, a new signer of London's Tottenham Hotspur, expressed his happiness at having the opportunity to work with veteran Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, who in turn confirmed that he had tried in the past to sign the Welsh striker while he was coach of Real Madrid.
Bale, 31, completed his loan deal to his former club, competing in the English Premier League, on Saturday from Real Madrid, the Spanish League champions, who spent seven years with them.
Mourinho said he tried to sign Bale while coaching Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Some reports have also nominated Bale to join Manchester United while Mourinho was leading his coaching staff.
"His presence was a main reason for me coming here," Bale told BT Sport about Mourinho. "He is a big name and has achieved many successes. He is the most suitable coach for Tottenham. .
"I know that all Tottenham fans are eager to win a title, and we will do our best in every tournament to achieve this goal," added Bale.
Bale injured the knee while representing Wales earlier this month, and is expected to be ready to play after the international break in October, and he is very excited to join Son Heung-min and Harry Kane in his new team.
"I haven't trained since the Welsh national team camp, so I need to go back to training. I hope I can get back in shape during my first match, regardless of when," the Welsh player said.
