Jean Castex on Sunday greeted the centrists of François Bayrou's Modem, "an essential ally" which President Emmanuel Macron and the Prime Minister "need".

The head of government evoked "a flawless European commitment, the very conception of decentralization, and above all the fact of having always put the human person at the heart" of the action of this political family, in an intervention by videoconference on the back-to-school days of the party heir to Christian democracy in France.

"This political thought, France needs it. The President of the Republic needs it. I need it", he insisted: "we cannot address ourselves to the French without our speech being built on a solid base, on a long-term political thought ".

While France is simultaneously facing the health crisis, the economic and social crisis, and a "crisis of authority which undermines our republican pact", Jean Castex evoked a moment "favorable to all the outbursts".

"We will achieve this, he said, only by conviction, by offensive, by restoring confidence, by unity and by coming together."

François Bayrou intervened previously, emphasizing the role to be played by the territories in overcoming the crisis, and welcoming the choice of Jean Castex "local elected representative of our distant Pyrenean province" to occupy Matignon.

The president of the Modem was also worried about the "fractures of fate" which hamper social mobility.

"There is a rupture in French society between the broadest base (...) and the so-called summit of society", described the mayor of Pau: "It has been a very long time since the base can be recognized in the summit. And even when the top is valuable, the mere fact that it is located in a position of responsibility leads to doubt, on privileges, on money, on the supposed benefits of office ".
