Afghan authorities say they intercepted a Taliban attack in a district of Kunduz province, located in the northeast of the country.

The insurgents were targeting positions of the security forces, says the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

The Taliban denounce for their part an attack on civilians.

They claim that no combatant is among the victims of these air strikes carried out this Saturday by the Afghan air force.

Request for a humanitarian ceasefire

Despite the start

of peace negotiations

between a delegation sent by Kabul and the Taliban, war continues to rage in Afghanistan.

Just last week, dozens of members of the security forces were killed in attacks by the Taliban.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has repeatedly called on the Taliban to conclude a humanitarian ceasefire.

But the insurgents refuse.

According to several observers, the Taliban are choosing to maintain military pressure to assert their position of strength at the negotiating table in the face of a weakened and divided Afghan government, which they consider illegitimate.
