The left-wing majority of the Metropolis of Grenoble, undermined by a controversial election of its president in July, officially reconciled on Friday around the election of the vice-presidents of the intermunicipal association.

On July 17, outgoing president Christophe Ferrari (ex-PS) was re-elected with the votes of the right and LREM against Yann Mongaburu, favorite of the EELV mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle, after an electric ballot.

There followed an icy summer within the metropolitan left before a resumption of contact last week which made it possible to burst the abscesses and approach on a healthier basis this new mandate at the head of the intermunicipal association of 49 municipalities, 430,000 inhabitants and 750 million euros of budget.

"After the crisis of July 17, there is September 18: the left is united to face the climatic, economic and social challenges of our territory in this difficult period", rejoiced Friday evening Christophe Ferrari.

Piolle satisfied

The 20 vice-presidencies (seven women and 13 men) were elected after a long session interspersed with several suspensions due to intense negotiations.

The ecological-rebellious-citizens group (UMA) finally obtains 9 vice-presidencies, the Communists (CCC) 3, the group of small municipalities (NMC) 5 and the Socialists (Acts) 3. The personal case of Yann Mongaburu, on which negotiations stalled for a long time, could be settled with a vice-presidency for the “climate challenge” with uncertain outlines.

"We find a political legibility, it is a majority of the left, ecological and citizen, which reflects the choice of the voters to the municipal ones", greeted in turn Eric Piolle.

For the ecologist councilor, "it is a good step, it was not easy to look towards the future because the vote of July 17 will remain the mark of an archaic mode of vote".

According to him, the indirect ballot made LREM and the right “kingmakers” when they had lost the municipal elections.
