The Gard department, hit by heavy rainfall, was placed on red alert by Météo France on Saturday at midday, indicates the forecasting body on its website. 

Météo France has placed the Gard in red vigilance because of the risk of rain, floods and thunderstorms, the forecast body said on its website on Saturday afternoon.

The episode is scheduled to last until 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. 

A strong "rain-stormy episode"

The department was already in orange vigilance since Saturday morning, like the Hérault and Lozère, because of a strong "rainy-stormy episode".

The first storms hit the Hérault on Saturday morning, with still moderate intensities "but very occasionally much more (54 mm in one hour at Caylar", underlines the organization in its morning bulletin.
