The Italians will vote this Sunday and Monday to elect local and regional administrations and say by referendum whether or not they want to reduce the number of their parliamentarians by a third.

But it is above all the appointment of new governors of six major regions that is considered a national test to judge the strength of the 5 Star coalition - the Democratic Party, in the government - and the progress of the Salvini League.

It is indeed a balance of power for the future which will be played out on Monday evening, with the proclamation of the results.

The center-left currently holds four of the six regions called to the polls.

The right center only two.

And according to the polls, the coalition led by the League could well gain ground.

The country's leading party, now in opposition, is eyeing in particular a symbolic bastion of the left: Tuscany.

Central region, prosperous, historically red, less affected than the North by the Covid pandemic, and yet ready to fall into the camp of the anti-European sovereignists rallied to

.

The two candidates are neck to neck.

If the right wing movement wins in Tuscany, it would be an earthquake in the Democratic camp.

The other test is played within this League itself, in Veneto.

There, Salvini is in competition with the Venetian regional governor, more pragmatic, consensual and less xenophobic than the former Minister of the Interior.

If he is beaten by the man in place, Salvini knows that he will not escape a settling of scores within the Legacy family.
