“Secretary Pompeo and Minister Araujo underlined our shared commitment to a secure, prosperous and democratic (Western) hemisphere, as well as our support for the people of Venezuela and their quest for freedom.
They agreed that the plan for a democratic transition in Venezuela provides a way out of the crisis, ”the State Department said in a statement.
The heads of the two foreign ministries also discussed the fight against the pandemic and economic recovery in the region.
Earlier it was reported that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will pay visits to countries bordering on Venezuela - Colombia, Brazil, Guyana.
He will also visit Suriname.
