The Director of the Desalination Plants Department at the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Engineer Faisal Al Serkal, confirmed that the authority carries out campaigns monthly to inspect water tanks in buildings, to ensure their cleanliness and the commitment of the owners to sterilize them in accordance with the required health standards, as dangerous health practices have been monitored through these campaigns, including the presence of Tanks on roofs without covers, containing birds, pollutants, and bacterial contamination, and uncleaned tanks were monitored for five to 10 years, pointing out that those campaigns that were launched since last year met with a great response by the owners and all unclean and polluted tanks were replaced to provide Pure water for residents and workers in industrial and commercial establishments.

He said that a work team was formed and visited random sites to ensure the safety and cleanliness of water tanks after complaints were received, noting that the inspection campaigns included water pump rooms to ensure their cleanliness, suitability and validity of the tanks, and to ensure that the opening of the lower tanks is above ground level to prevent the entry of any contaminants or impurities. And to ensure that the owners are committed to performing the necessary cleaning and maintenance operations and that there are no illegal connections.

He indicated that the aim of the campaigns is to deter the owners of buildings, factories, and shops and make them aware of the importance of cleaning water tanks to maintain public safety, and the service of examining samples is free and without fees, pointing out that 45 residential, commercial and industrial sites are inspected every month, and if violations of lack of cleanliness and pollution are discovered Water tanks are directed to the owner to change them as soon as possible and give him a deadline, after which a surprise visit to the site is organized to ensure that they are changed.

He pointed out that the inspection mechanism covers the upper water tanks to ensure the validity of the reservoir and the presence of protective covers and to take a sample of the water of the tank in the event of any suspicion of contamination for analysis in the Authority’s laboratories, in addition to detecting any leakage from the tanks or pipes and their validity and the owners ’procedure for the necessary maintenance and the absence of any connections other than Legal.

He indicated that the responsibility of the authority is until the connection of water and electricity, and beyond the meters, the responsibility of the owner is with regard to cleaning the water, pipes and sanitary installations, indicating that the owner must maintain the cleanliness of the tank for the consumers of the population, and make sure that the procedures for cleaning the water tanks are in good condition, properly covered and examined. And disinfect them regularly to ensure their cleanliness, and maintain and repair the tank periodically every six months.

Desalination plants

The Director of Desalination Plants Department at the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Eng. Faisal Al Serkal, revealed the complete completion of the main Falaj station, as all pumps were replaced in it after the end of their life span and 30 years of operation, indicating that pumps have been installed at multiple speeds to provide energy and ensure its sustainability for the future. .

He indicated that there is a Hamda water pumping station that will be completed next December, and the Budaiya station will be completed in April 2021, as a strategic reservoir will be established in it and pumps with high-level specifications to provide energy and control the proportion of water pumping, indicating a new desalination plant in Sir Bu Nair island.
