France, Spain and the United Kingdom are not alone.

Because Germany is also experiencing an upsurge in the coronavirus epidemic.

It recorded this Saturday its highest daily number of new cases since April, with 2,297 infections, according to the Robert Koch institute.

This is the highest daily increase since April 24.

In total, some 270,070 people have tested positive in Germany since the start of the epidemic, which has killed 9,384 (including 6 in the last 24 hours).

Canceled festivals

North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous region in Germany, and Bavaria are the two Länder most affected, each with around 65,000 officially recorded cases.

Germany, however, performs around twice as many tests per week in September compared to April, with one million tests compared to 500,000 five months ago.

The infection rate stood at 1.16 and 1.21 on Friday over the past seven days, according to the Robert Koch Institute.

The deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Germany prompted Friday the organizers of carnivals in North Rhine-Westphalia to cancel these festivities this year, an institution in the west and south of the country which brings together tens of thousands of people every year.
