According to him, the provocation with Navalny is needed by Western countries to impose new sanctions and block Russia's actions to defend Belarus.

"After the statements of the European Parliament, we can say that the secret services of foreign states are behind the situation with Navalny," the State Duma press service quotes Volodin.

Volodin urged to take responsibility measures in relation to those who initiate such decisions in the European Parliament.

“Therefore, I propose, within the framework of the parliamentary dimension, the Bundestag to discuss once again how much their special services and officials are involved in what is happening,” Volodin said.

He also recommended that the parliaments of other European countries "deal with this issue."

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution urging to find and freeze the European assets of those involved in Alexei Navalny's investigations.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said that the European Parliament's resolution on the situation around Navalny was being prepared in a hurry.

According to him, the authors of the resolution "even confused Omsk and Tomsk."
