Trump awards the Emir of Kuwait with the American Order of Merit with the rank of Commander in Chief

The Minister of Kuwaiti Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah announced that US President Donald Trump awarded the Order of Military Merit with the rank of Supreme Commander to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at a ceremony held in the Oval Office at the White House on Friday.

The medal was received on behalf of the Emir of Kuwait, his eldest son Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The White House said, in a press statement today, that this "honor from President Trump is a recognition of the great role that the Emir of Kuwait leads in the region and the world."

He continued, "and as a culmination of the historic and distinguished partnership between Kuwait and the United States, which spanned over decades, and coincided with the approaching sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly countries."

The Medal of Military Merit, with the rank of commander in chief, is considered one of the highest military honors, which the US President rarely conferred on the leaders of the allied countries during historical periods, as it was awarded to only eleven heads of state, and the last medal was awarded in 1991.

The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, is receiving treatment in the United States, and the Amiri Diwan stated that his health condition is stable, saying: "His condition is stable and he is receiving scheduled treatment."
