China Tianwen-1 Mars rover configuration revealed: six-wheel independently driven solar wing in butterfly wing shape

China News Service, Fuzhou, September 18 (Guo Chaokai) At the 2020 China Space Conference held on the 18th, Zhang Rongqiao, chief designer of China's first Mars exploration mission, announced more configuration details of the Tianwen-1 Mars rover: Mars rover It has a mass of about 240 kilograms and is independently driven by 6 wheels, carrying 6 loads, and its solar wing is in the shape of a butterfly wing.

2020 is the "year of the big set" of Mars exploration.

In July of this year, the UAE Hope, China Tianwen-1, and U.S. Perseverance 3 Mars rover successively embarked on the "fire" journey, opening a new chapter in human Mars exploration.

On July 23, China’s first Mars exploration mission, the Tianwen-1 probe, was launched by the Long March 5 carrier rocket at the Wenchang Space Launch Site, and on July 27, it sent back a clear earth-moon photo.

Zhang Rongqiao said that China's first Mars exploration mission was successful in the first battle, and there is a long way to go, but the successful launch of the mission is still very far away.

In the history of mankind, there have been 44 Mars exploration missions, of which only 22 were successful or partially successful. On the other hand, there were 20 Mars landing missions, of which only 8 were successful, all of which were implemented by the United States.

China's Tianwen No. 1 mission will achieve circumnavigation, landing, and patrol in one mission, which is the first time in the world.

The Tianwen-1 probe will fly in the ground-fire transfer orbit for about 7 months and arrive near Mars. It will complete the capture of Mars by "braking", enter the ring-fire orbit, and choose the opportunity to carry out missions such as landing and patrol for scientific exploration of Mars.

Zhang Rongqiao said that the Tianwen No. 1 mission will fly for about 7 months with a distance of about 474.7 million kilometers.

The Tianwen-1 mission has taken the first step in China's planetary exploration. In the future, China will also implement asteroid sampling and return, Mars sampling and return, and Jupiter orbiting missions.

The sample return mission of the asteroid exploration mission will carry out an orbiting exploration of the near-Earth asteroid 2016HO3, and then choose the opportunity to attach to the surface of the asteroid and collect asteroid samples, and then return to the vicinity of the earth to release the return capsule, and send the asteroid samples back to the earth. The process will be completed in approximately 3 years.

After the completion of the above process, the probe will reach the asteroid belt with the help of the earth and Mars in about 7 years, and carry out orbiting the main belt comet 133P.

The probe is equipped with relevant scientific payloads to perform remote sensing detection, in-position detection and sampling return of the target asteroid by means of overflight, companion flight, attachment, and sampling return.
