Today, the City of Gothenburg has an agreement with electric scooter companies on how to handle incorrectly parked electric scooters.

But this agreement is not enough, the Social Democrats believe.

- Many Gothenburgers have contacted me regarding this.

They experience that electric scooters are an obstacle when they have to cycle.

They hinder the elderly and visually impaired in their accessibility and that is a big problem, says Blerta Hoti (S).

"Reasonable to charge a fee"

SVT Nyheter Väst has contacted several of the companies for a comment.

All respond that they take seriously the fact that electric scooters are incorrectly parked and that they work actively with it.

- We currently work with street inspectors who ensure that our vehicles are appropriately parked in line with the letter of intent we have with the City of Gothenburg where we have committed to relocate incorrectly parked electric scooters within two hours after we are notified, says Lukas Samuelsson, head of Tier in Sweden .

One of the companies, Voi, today has an agreement with the traffic office in Stockholm, which is similar to what the Social Democrats in Gothenburg are now proposing.

The agreement means that the company is forced to pay a fee to the city of Stockholm every time the traffic office picks up incorrectly parked vehicles on the city's streets.

- We think this is completely reasonable, says Eric André who is Sweden's manager at Voi.

"Is a problem"

At the same time as the Social Democrats are now presenting their proposal, the traffic administration is developing a solution to solve the problems with electric scooters.

- It is a problem and we must do something about it, says the chairman of the traffic committee Toni Orsulic (M) and adds:

- But I have not yet seen the Social Democrats' proposal, so I can not comment on it at the moment.

The proposal from S will be taken up at the traffic committee's meeting on Thursday next week.
