Russia agrees to sell the first prescription treatment for Corona in pharmacies

Russia has agreed to use the drug "Coronavir" produced by the R-Pharm company in the treatment of outpatients with mild to moderate infection with Covid-19 disease, with the possibility of providing the anti-viral drug in pharmacies around the country at the earliest next week, the company said. Today is Friday.

The approval to use Coronavir as a prescription treatment came after another Russian drug, avivavir, was approved in May.

The two drugs are based on the drug favipiravir that was developed in Japan and is widely used there as the basis for anti-viral treatments.

The R-Farm announcement is another sign that Russia is aggressively seeking to occupy a global lead in the fight against the Coronavirus.

It is already exporting its tests to detect "Covid-19", and has won several international deals to provide supplies of the "Sputnik-5" vaccine.

R-Pharma said it received approval for Coronavir after the completion of the third phase of a clinical trial that included 168 patients.

The drug was first approved for hospital use in July, according to a government registry.

Avavavir has been available in hospitals since June but is not yet available in pharmacies.
