A member of the Tunisian Ennahda Movement's executive office in charge of the media, Mohamed Al-Baroumi, said that the fierce campaign that the president of the movement and the president of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (Parliament), Rached Ghannouchi, is subjected to, comes from outside Tunisia with the help of people inside the country.

In the last period, Ghannouchi was exposed to a campaign targeting his financial integrity and his stances on regional issues such as the Libyan crisis.

Al-Baroumi added in an exclusive interview with Al-Jazeera Net that what is happening in the past days of a campaign targeting the Ennahda movement and its president, Ghannouchi, represents a targeting of the young Tunisian experience, stressing that this campaign launched by regional parties to strike the path of democratic transition in Tunisia is not born today.

The leader of the Ennahda Movement continued that the historical symbolism and struggle that Ghannouchi enjoys, which was strengthened after his presidency of Parliament, made the Tunisian experience and the Ennahda movement exposed "to a fierce campaign from outside Tunisia by media and television networks, and from inside Tunisia also by some individuals."

In response to what is going on about the head of the Ennahda movement regarding his financial integrity, the member of the Executive Office indicated that Ghannouchi declared his properties twice, the first in his capacity as President of the Ennahda and the second in his capacity as the People's Deputy and Speaker of Parliament, and no official body questioned his financial assets, confirming that his real wealth It is his 50-year struggle for freedoms and democracy, and his credit in knowledge, research and writing.

He said that Ghannouchi is a transnational figure, and that targeting him is a target of the Parliament, which represents the most prestigious form of democratic practice, noting that his struggle credits allow him to play a major role inside and outside Tunisia in the field of international issues.

Baroumi talked about an organized campaign run by one "operations room", which was recruited by Arab, Egyptian and Emirati media outlets, as well as media outlets and social media pages in Tunisia.

He stressed that the aforementioned campaign "will not disrupt the path of Tunisian democracy, but rather it bears a greater responsibility for us to move forward with this experience, as it represents a pioneering experience in the region and the Arab world."

He believed that targeting the democratic experience of Tunisia and its national symbols and leaders imposes more solidarity and cooperation between parties, currents and organizations that seek to continue this experience and protect this democratic path.

According to the same spokesman, what is happening in Tunisia requires the continuation of the demand for a national unity government that brings together all political parties and intellectual currents to repel foreign campaigns and attacks, and cooperate to solve internal economic and social problems, especially those associated with the repercussions of the spread of the Coronavirus.

The leader of the Ennahda movement called for support of the government in order to serve the demands of all Tunisians in light of the difficult and exceptional circumstances that the country is going through, and reviewed the reasons for the movement's call for a national unity government, especially in light of the economic difficulties exacerbated by the Coronavirus crisis.

Regarding the promotion of differences between the three presidencies in Tunisia (the Presidency of the Republic, the Presidency of the Government and the Presidency of Parliament), Al-Baraoumi explained that Ennahda is committed to the nature of the relationship that the constitution organizes between these three presidencies, and that any dispute is resolved through dialogue.

Reports by the prosecution

. Last Wednesday, Ghannouchi had submitted

reports

to the Public Prosecution Office against persons and institutions "intentionally spreading rumors and lies." During the past days, reports by Saudi and Emirati media claimed that Ghannouchi had accumulated a huge financial fortune since his return to Tunisia.

The deputies of the opposition Free Constitutional Party held a sit-in for a week under the dome of Parliament, after a request they submitted to hold an interrogation session for Parliament Speaker Rashid Ghannouchi was rejected.

However, the six deputies ended their sit-in after the parliament accepted the request, and announced that it would hold a dialogue session with Ghannouchi to talk about his regional political stances - especially the Libyan file - on June 3.

Observers believe that the campaign aims to drive a wedge between parliament and the presidency in Tunisia, and provoke side battles between the blocs in a desire to dismantle state institutions, while experts consider them an attempt to cover up the failure in Libya.

On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Ghannouchi called on the citizens of his country to show solidarity, close ranks and calm, and said, "We are heading to another stage, which is the post-Corona stage, so we call on everyone for solidarity and close ranks, and we call for calm and call for consensus."

He added, "After the success in the democratic and political transition, we must turn to society - especially the weak and disadvantaged groups - to achieve the required development."

He pointed out that "the bet is to succeed in development as we succeeded in politics, and to succeed in social justice as we succeeded in freedom."
