On Friday, the ferry runs between Umeå and Vaasa as usual, after being ashore for two days due to the storm that mainly affected the Finnish side.

The Meteorological Institute in Finland had urged people to be careful and said to stay indoors.

Swedish Yle reports that 18,000 electricity subscribers were without power in Ostrobothnia on Thursday morning.

The storm tore down the street lights and power lines and trees have fallen over roads, cars and houses, the rescue service in Ostrobothnia tells Svenska Yle.

Christian Nylund in Vaasa tells SVT that it was stormy during the night until Thursday.

- It has been a hard night and whipped up something incredible, but now the wind is calming down and heading south towards Turku, he says.

- There is an incredible amount of trees that have fallen over, says viewer Christer Nylund who has cycled around Vaasa on Thursday morning and documented the devastation of storm Aila.
