September 18, 2020 "A loud roar, a lot of fear".
Thus witnesses tell of the violent explosion that occurred this morning around 8 in an apartment on the ground floor of a building in the Veronetta district (Verona).
Some residents - according to reports from the newspaper L'Arena - say that it has a malicious origin: it would have been provoked voluntarily by a tenant who had received an ultimatum of eviction.
The explosion triggered a fire following which one person was seriously burned and was taken to Borgo Trento in red code, another was poisoned because he was in bed with a fractured leg and four others treated on the spot and not taken to hospital.
At the moment there are no collapses inside the building.
Checks are underway by Fire Brigade technicians to assess the stability of the structure and to ascertain the causes of the event.
The Carabinieri and the local police are also on site.
Upon hearing the news, the mayor Federico Sboarina immediately went to the scene.
Traffic in the area is prohibited.
