The Director of the Medical Education and Research Department at the Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Wadia Sharif, confirmed to “Emirates Today” that the agreements and partnerships concluded by the authority with local, regional and international health institutions strengthened the skills of the doctors working in them, and contributed to refining their expertise, as well as the Emiratisation policy. She explained that the agreements and partnerships come in implementation of the Dubai Strategy for Medical Education, to ensure the provision of advanced educational opportunities for doctors and health practitioners, noting that the authority has strengthened partnerships with prestigious academic institutions inside and outside the country, to allow doctors and employees of the authority to complete their specialized studies in accordance with international best practices.

The authority expanded its partnerships to include developed countries, to benefit from their expertise and experiences.

The list of partnerships and agreements included cooperation with the German Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology to build skilled human capacity in the field of injuries, accidents and fractures.

It also entered into an agreement with the Irish College of Health Practitioners in (Ireland) to launch a fellowship program in the health of women and children, to contribute to the development of the skills of its cadres and support their practical capabilities to provide the best level of health care services, in order to achieve the goal of "reaching a healthier and happier society."

Dr. Wadia Sharif said that the authority also entered into an agreement with the British Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, with the aim of making Dubai a global center for holding college examinations for doctors, through the Department of Medical Education and Research at the authority, and then providing opportunities for doctors to enter specialized exams in Dubai.

She pointed to the agreements signed by the authority at the regional level, including the agreement with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, which focuses on empowering doctors of various specialties according to scientific requirements, and obtaining a specialist certificate from the Saudi Commission.

This includes internal medicine and neurology majors, as well as fellowship programs in hematology, digestive system, respiratory diseases, and other medical specialties.

She added that the authority has partnered with prestigious medical and academic institutions in Canada, to facilitate the scholarship of doctors, provide opportunities for its medical staff to complete clinical and specialized training in delicate medical fields, learn about the latest medical and surgical technologies, artificial intelligence and organ transplantation, in addition to coordination and cooperation in the field of studies and research. Participation, which contributes to the development of health care services provided at the authority, in accordance with international best practices.

Dr. Wadia Sharif said that the authority also sought to cooperate with the American Heart Association to take advantage of the training opportunities available to support medical personnel in promoting heart health, rapid response to emergencies, cardiac resuscitation and life-saving, which led to the development of prevention services and improvement of heart health in the emirate.

She emphasized the authority's keenness to cooperate with academic medical institutions within the country, to take advantage of the available capabilities, to ensure the development of their health services, pointing to the close cooperation with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, which contributed to the development of medical research in the emirate during the "Covid-19" pandemic. And it made a quantum leap in improving the quality of medical research.

The cooperation with the Fatima College of Medical Sciences, the University of Sharjah and the Higher Colleges of Technology has also contributed to strengthening efforts aimed at supplying the health sector with medical, supportive and nursing staff, providing training opportunities, and implementing programs and workshops for professional development in various health fields.

She stated that the partnerships supported the Emiratisation policy in various health specialties, by sponsoring and attracting talented students, appointing graduates in various health positions in the authority’s facilities, and supporting the Emiratisation strategy adopted by Dubai Health and seeks to implement it.

She said that the comprehensive strategy represents a very important qualitative leap in the plans, programs and methods of professional medical practices, and is also a strong and direct support for the field of specialized medical research, especially as it takes into account the principles of governance and opens up broad horizons for integration between colleges and health facilities.
