The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is 97% complete.

This was stated during the hearings in the Bundestag by the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig.

“This is a major infrastructure project, it is 97% complete,” she said.

The Prime Minister also drew attention to the threats coming to the leadership of the German port of Mukran from Washington.

“The fact that the United States is threatening the management and employees of the small port of Mukran, although they have not done anything illegal - they are ensuring the laying of the pipeline, which is legally legal - that these threats are possible from a friendly nation, to which, among other things, we owe this 30th anniversary the unification of Germany is monstrous, ”RIA Novosti quoted Schwezig as saying.

In addition, the prime ministers of six German states - Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg - Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia during a meeting in the capital of the country unanimously supported the completion of the construction of the gas pipeline, TASS reports with reference to the document issued following the results meetings of the heads of these regions.

In it, in particular, it is noted that Nord Stream 2 is important for the future energy supply of Germany and Europe, in connection with which its completion would be expedient.

“This is a project that plays a decisive role in our revised energy and climate policy, and therefore we have come to the conclusion that we want to continue it,” said the ruling burgomaster of Berlin, Michael Müller.

In turn, the Prime Minister of Saxony Michael Kretschmer noted that the gas pipeline "is needed from an economic point of view" and is important for maintaining a connection with Russia.

He also called on to investigate the incident with Alexei Navalny, but "not to aggravate the conflict."

Let us remind you that Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states, as well as the United States, which are promoting their liquefied natural gas to the EU, are against the construction of Nord Stream 2.

They argue that the pipeline allegedly threatens Europe's energy security.

Russia has repeatedly reminded that Nord Stream 2 is an exclusively commercial project.

At the end of 2019, the United States adopted a defense budget that included sanctions against companies involved in the construction, as a result of which the Swiss Allseas stopped work on the project.

In addition, in August 2020, three US senators - Ted Cruise, Tom Cotton and Ron Johnson - sent a letter to the operator of the port of Mukran in the city of Sassnitz demanding that work to support the construction of the gas pipeline cease, threatening "serious consequences" if the company "does not immediately cease financially. -technical support "of the gas pipeline laying.

Shortly before this, the House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the draft defense budget, which involves the expansion of sanctions related to the gas pipeline project.

Burgomaster Sassnitz Frank Kracht, in an interview with RT Deutsch, commented on the possibility of Washington introducing new restrictive measures against Nord Stream 2, under which the city could fall, and called such actions by the American side a violation of international law.

The incident with Alexey Navalny

The situation around the construction of the gas pipeline has aggravated against the background of the incident with Alexei Navalny.

After the German government announced that the blogger, who is currently undergoing treatment in Berlin, was allegedly poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas did not rule out the possible suspension of the project.

He added that Russia can take part in the investigation of the incident with Navalny and thereby "contribute" to the fact that the decision to suspend the construction of Nord Stream 2 is not taken.

The Russian Foreign Ministry urged not to issue ultimatums related to the prospects for the construction of the highway.

Recall that Berlin did not provide any evidence in the Navalny case, and also did not respond to official inquiries from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office.

It is worth noting that the representative of the German government, Steffen Seibert, avoided answering the question of the journalist RT Deutsch about whether the German authorities could confirm the version of Navalny's team, according to which the "poisoning" occurred not at the airport, but through bottles of water in his hotel room. which his team illegally took to Germany.

“The federal government has studied the video posted on the Internet by Navalny's team.

For questions regarding this video, you should contact Navalny's team.

Everything that we wanted to say on this topic, we have already announced earlier in press releases and statements, including in the statements of the Federal Chancellor, and I have nothing to add on this matter, ”he said.

Also, when asked by RT Deutsch about whether the German federal government was informed about the results of the study of Navalny's samples by OPCW specialists, the German Foreign Ministry said that such information had not yet been received by them.

When asked about the consideration of the Russian request for legal assistance, the German Ministry of Justice said that it is still being considered.

“The second request of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office for legal assistance, dated September 14, sent on Monday evening this week, was received by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

We also reported that this second request for legal aid is still undergoing review by the federal government.

From this point of view, the status of the request remains unchanged for now.

His check continues, the request has not yet been submitted to the Berlin prosecutor's office, ”the department said.
