In view of the health context, the sacrosanct student evening on Thursday evening will not have the same flavor in the streets of Rennes.

Since Wednesday, all bars must indeed lower the curtain at 11 p.m. by decision of the prefecture.

But with this early closure, the authorities fear that the party will continue in public space.

"Social life must of course continue, but everything must be done to avoid gatherings and thus reduce the risk of contamination," warns Yannick Nadesan, in charge of health at the city of Rennes.

Because the figures are not good in the Breton capital where the incidence rate of Covid-19 now stands at 136 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the positivity rate at 8.07%.

"These two rates are 7 and 4 times higher than in the Brest metropolis", indicates the elected official, specifying that these indicators are even worse on the age group of 16-25 years.

Agents to remind people of barrier gestures

To prevent the outbreak of contaminations from continuing, especially among young people, the city of Rennes has therefore decided to strengthen its mediation and prevention actions.

From this Thursday evening, agents will circulate in the festive streets of the city to remind night owls of barrier gestures and physical distancing measures.

If the message is not heard, the police will also be on the ground to issue a ticket.

"We call on everyone's responsibility to prevent the situation from getting worse," said the elected official.
