China News Service, London, September 17 (Reporter Zhang Ping) Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, met with the new British Ambassador to China Wu Ruolan at the embassy on the 16th.

Liu Xiaoming congratulated Wu Ruolan on her upcoming appointment to China and hoped that Wu Ruolan, as the 13th British ambassador to China, will play an active role in promoting the development of China-UK relations.

Liu Xiaoming said that 70 years ago, Britain became the first Western power to recognize the People's Republic of China.

Over the past 70 years, China-UK relations have experienced ups and downs and have generally moved forward, and cooperation in various fields has achieved positive results.

In the "post-Brexit era" and "post-epidemic era", China-UK cooperation has great potential and broad prospects.

The current Sino-British relations are encountering difficulties and are at a crossroads.

As long as the basic norms of international relations are observed, especially mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, relations between the two countries can overcome current difficulties, get back on track as soon as possible, achieve stable and healthy development, and benefit the two peoples.

Wu Ruolan said that she looks forward to finding a job in China.

China is a big country with important international influence, and the "global Britain" needs to develop a constructive relationship with China.

Currently, the relationship between Britain and China is at a critical juncture.

The British side is willing to have a candid dialogue with the Chinese side, deepen cooperation in trade and investment, the "Belt and Road" and other fields, and strengthen international cooperation, so that Britain-China relations can better benefit both countries.

Wu Ruolan expressed that she is willing to have extensive contacts with all walks of life in China during her tenure to enhance mutual understanding and strive to promote the continuous development of UK-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of common concern.
