The European Parliament has approved a resolution regarding the incident with Alexei Navalny.

The parliamentarians called on the EU to strengthen the existing sanctions against Russia, as well as create a mechanism similar to the US Magnitsky Act.

“The European Parliament calls on the Council of Foreign Ministers to take an active position on this issue at the meeting on September 21, demands that the EU draw up a list of decisive restrictive measures against Russia as soon as possible and tighten the sanctions that have already been imposed against it, calls for the use of such sanctions mechanisms that provide for the seizure and freezing of European assets belonging to persons who, according to the Anti-Corruption Fund of Alexei Navalny, are involved in corruption, ”the document says.

MEPs also propose to organize an "independent international investigation" of the incident with the participation of the European Union, the UN Council of Europe, EU allies and the OPCW.

In addition, the document calls for the development of a strategy for future relations with a "democratic Russia", which will include "a wide range of incentives and conditions to strengthen domestic trends towards freedom and democracy."

In addition, the MEPs insist that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline be suspended.

“We call on the EU to continuously demand that Russia repeal or amend all laws that are inconsistent with international principles - including illegally adopted amendments to the Russian Constitution, as well as the legal framework for elections and legislation on foreign agents and unwanted organizations - in order to promote pluralism and free and fair elections, as well as to ensure equality of opportunity for opposition candidates, ”the resolution adds.

Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said that the adoption of this document is interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.

"The resolution of the European Parliament on the situation around the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny, in which between the lines it is proposed to adopt a strategy for the democratization of Russia with the requirement to cancel the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, is a direct and gross interference in the internal affairs of our country," Slutsky stressed.

He also expressed the hope that sane European politicians will stay away from such assessments, since the EP documents are of an exclusively recommendatory nature and are not binding on the EU bodies.

As the first deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Viktor Vodolatsky noted, such proposals of MEPs are not new.

“The confidence in such decisions among normal citizens of the European Union is falling and falling.

Everything that is happening today is the continuation of a well-planned work aimed at ensuring that the Russophobic policy continues, so that Russia is presented in the eyes of Western inhabitants as a demon that threatens their safety, "said the interlocutor of RT.

In turn, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council committee on international affairs, described the draft resolution as "an illogical, strange and absurd decision."

“Somehow it doesn't even occur to them that the situation with Navalny is completely illogical from the point of view of some of our possible actions.

Why did Russia have to take any action against Navalny that would really threaten his life?

What happened to Navalny plays into the hands of all Russia's enemies.

They, as in many other situations, without any investigation, begin to accuse Russia of some actions, ”the senator explained in a conversation with RT.

Earlier, the Permanent Mission of Russia to the European Union made an appeal to Brussels against the backdrop of a large-scale information campaign in the EU countries on the situation with Alexei Navalny.

Russian diplomats pointed to a number of inconsistencies in the West's version of Navalny's “poisoning” and called on EU officials and EP members to answer nine questions.

The Navalny bottle puzzle

On Thursday, August 17, a video with a commentary was published on Alexey Navalny's Instagram account, which tells about a bottle on which German doctors allegedly found traces of a military nerve agent from the Novichok group.

The post explains that the employees of the Anti-Corruption Foundation *, on the instructions of a lawyer, recorded, described and packed all the things found in the room of the Xander hotel in Tomsk, where Navalny lived.

Then they “without much hope” handed them over to German doctors.

One of the developers of Novichk, Doctor of Chemistry Leonid Rink, seriously questioned the statements of the Anti-Corruption Foundation employees.

According to him, if the poison was really applied to the bottle, then everyone who touched it would die.

“This is a situation when nobody can touch this bottle - you will die.

If this were really so, then there would be a major deceased, and everyone who carried this bottle without gloves and protection would also die, ”Rink said.

His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

In addition, according to the scientist, it is impossible to prove that the bottle, which is now allegedly in the possession of German specialists, was brought from Tomsk.

“If we consider that all the bottles are the same, then this is“ dead evidence ”... All bottles are the same, and it is impossible to prove that this particular bottle is from a hotel in Tomsk, which means that this bottle can be prepared anywhere on earth. ball, ”he added.

He also urged to check the institutions where, according to media reports, worked Konstantin Pevchikh - the father of Maria Pevchikh, one of Navalny's escort on a trip to Siberia, who avoided giving explanations on the situation and flew to Germany.

In chemical laboratories, according to Rink, it is “very easy” to create a toxic substance with the right personnel.

OPCW analyzes

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will soon provide Germany with the results of the analyzes of Alexei Navalny.

This is stated in the message of the international body.

It is noted that the technical secretariat of the organization received a request from Germany for assistance, which was provided in accordance with the 8th article of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

“A group of experts from the technical secretariat independently collected biomedical samples from Navalny for analysis in the OPCW laboratories.

The results of this analysis are expected and will be provided to the German authorities, ”the OPCW said.

Earlier, the German authorities reported that Navalny was allegedly poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group.

Meanwhile, the Russian doctors who treated the blogger have repeatedly stated that the tests carried out did not reveal traces of toxic substances in the patient's body.

Alexei Navalny has been in the Berlin clinic "Charite" since August 22, where he was transported from the emergency hospital No. 1 in Omsk, after local doctors considered the patient's condition stable.

On August 20, the blogger felt bad during the Tomsk-Moscow flight.
