17 September 2020New shipwreck on the migrant routes to Italy. A small boat carrying 14 people sank while trying to reach the southern coast of Sardinia. Thirteen people have been saved, while one is missing.



The alarm went off just before 1pm when a merchant ship passing off Cala Sapone, about 24 miles west of Carloforte, saw the small boat sink.



The commander immediately called the Coast Guard and in the meantime he approached to rescue the migrants who ended up at sea. A patrol boat and a Coast Guard helicopter arrived on the spot.
