The first stone of the future "Basket Center" in Strasbourg will be laid this Saturday.

A symbolic starting point before nearly ten months of work and a delivery expected in July 2021.

Fans of the orange ball could well make the place, a few hundred from the Meinau stadium, their next temple.

Everything has in any case been thought out with this in mind with a somewhat particular project manager: the Bas-Rhin basketball committee.

Three grounds with parquet

"This is a project we have been working on for more than five years," rewinds its president Denis Oehler.

“At the start, we started from the observation that we never had a room to organize, for example, referee training.

Then we conducted a survey in 2018 with the public of the department from which we learned a lot.

Like that of leaving the new complex also accessible to non-licensees.

The initial idea of ​​building a simple gymnasium was therefore transformed into a real estate project of… 3,000 m²!

On this immense surface, 2,000 m² will be devoted to three basketball courts, separated by curtains and all covered with parquet approved by the International Federation (Fiba).

"They will be divisible by two because one of the objectives is to promote 3 against 3 or even to organize international tournaments", specifies Mathilde Metz, communications officer for the committee, also referring to a "shooting machine".

The device, which returns the balls to the shooter, will be bookable, as will the courts.

"It will be open to all and we can come to several in a niche or join a group", she continues, without going too far on the rates "being finalized".

Of the initial budget, 1.5 million came from local authorities (city, Eurometropolis, region), 500,000 from sponsorship / patronage and the departmental committee borrowed three million.
