He thinks that the work in the very festive municipalities is bad, which he thinks is due to the fact that you do not have a statutory responsibility to work on crime prevention.

One explanation for the lack of such a responsibility enshrined in the law, he believes, is that crime and crime have long been seen as a purely police issue.

- But the municipalities have a very important part in the development of crime, says Magnus Lindgren.

Local joint action groups are needed

Increased police presence and a greater role for the municipality in the work against crime is the solution, believes Magnus Lindgren.

The organization also wants to see local government-wide action groups in particularly vulnerable areas, where the Swedish Tax Agency, the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service are important actors.

It is also desired that the government allocates SEK 2 billion a year to increase safety and security in particularly vulnerable areas.

Former municipal councilor investigates the issue

An investigation is currently underway to review how a legislated municipal responsibility to work on crime prevention can be designed.

It is led by the former municipal councilor in Gothenburg, Ann-Sofie Hermansson (S).

The investigation is part of the Government's 34-point program with further measures against gang crime and must be reported no later than 15 June 2021.
