  • The self-service bicycle rental system developed in Lyon by JC Decaux broke a new record with a daily average of over 35,000 rentals.

  • On September 10 and 13, more than 43,000 rentals were even recorded in one day.

  • This high attendance is not unrelated to the health crisis which, since deconfinement, has resulted in Lyon in a strong increase in the use of two-wheelers.

Splendid weather and clearly improved cycling conditions.

Since the beginning of September, the use of Vélo'V has jumped in Lyon, allowing the self-service bicycle system developed by JC Decaux to beat a new record.

“Vélo'V is experiencing a record level of activity with a daily average of over 35,000 rentals.

On average, each bike is therefore rented more than eight times a day.

465,644 rentals were carried out during the first 13 days of September, a first in the history of Vélo'V, ”the city of Lyon said on Wednesday.

On September 10 and 13, more than 43,000 rentals were even recorded in one day.

These figures are higher than the records observed in the past by JC Decaux, during the days of transport strikes in particular.

Clear growth in the number of cyclists

This high attendance is not unrelated to the health crisis which, since deconfinement, has resulted in Lyon in a strong increase in the use of two-wheelers.

This attraction is undoubtedly reinforced by the 30 km of cycling facilities carried out this summer by the services of the metropolis, making journeys on two wheels safer and more pleasant.

This record attendance recorded by Vélo'V could be long-term, thanks to the opening of new stations.

Four will be put into service this Thursday in Lyon and Villeurbanne (for a total of 424).

Among the newly equipped areas, the Hôtel-Dieu-Pont de la Guillotière station (2nd) will offer 50 spaces close to Bellecour.

And in Villeurbanne, the Jaurès-Saint-Exupéry station will now offer 30 places to park your bicycle.
