The smoke of America's bushfires reaches Europe

Satellite images showed the tremendous effects of wildfires in the western United States, as the smoke from them reached Europe.

The data collected by the European Union's Copernicus atmospheric monitoring service concluded that smoke from the fires had traveled 8,000 km through the atmosphere to Britain and other parts of northern Europe.

The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast, which manages some of the Copernicus satellite monitoring systems, said the fires in California, Oregon and Washington have emitted an estimated 30.3 million metric tons (33.4 million tons) of carbon.
