Last week, the Abu Dhabi Police General Command began implementing the vehicle seizure law in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which obliges perpetrators of serious traffic violations in 10 cases to pay fees between 5000 and 50 thousand dirhams to unblock the vehicle.

They affirmed their commitment to traffic and traffic laws and safe driving on the road, but at the same time they expressed their fear of the value of the vehicle seizure fine for violating the red signal, which is valued at 50 thousand dirhams, as they indicated that some may unintentionally mistake the signal at Some lanes or in the event of changing the color of the signal, which exposes them to a large fine in excess of the actual vehicle value.

For his part, the Deputy Director of the Traffic Engineering and Road Safety Department, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Muslim Muhammad Al-Junaibi, stated that in the event that the driver did not pay the violation and the seizure release fees, the vehicle would be sold at auction three months after the expiry of its seizure period, and the violation will be paid from the amount.

Al-Junaibi stressed that the decision is directed at a specific category of reckless drivers, and does not target the majority of committed drivers who will not be affected by it. And about the violation of bypassing the red light and the difference between the reservation fee and the reservation fee, Al-Junaibi clarified that the reservation allowance fee is 3000 dirhams if desired. The driver buys the reservation period, which is 30 days, according to the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law, in addition to that the fees for removing the reservation on this violation, which amount to 50 thousand dirhams, according to the vehicle seizure law recently issued in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the driver is obligated to pay it after the lapse of 30 days from the vehicle seizure .

Al-Junaibi noted that this law is one of the local laws, pointing out that all the penalties stipulated in the Federal Law are still applicable to all traffic violations of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

He mentioned that there is a specialized committee formed to look into all grievances on the violations mentioned in this law, where they are studied, to ascertain the merits of the violation and its validity, and to take the appropriate decision.

Vehicle reservation mechanism

Abu Dhabi Police explained the mechanism for seizing vehicles according to the new law, explaining that it begins first with paying the value of the traffic violation and the expiry of the seizure period stipulated in the Federal Traffic Law, then paying the fees for releasing the reservation stipulated in the local law No. (5) of 2020 regarding the seizure of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi .

She indicated that in the event that the violator does not pay the reservation fee for release within three months, the vehicle will be sold in public auction, pointing out that notifications will be sent to the violators before selling the reserved vehicles through text messages and advertisements in the daily newspapers.
