It will therefore be neither the end of July nor the beginning of October.

Rescheduled in the heart of summer, the Grande Braderie de Strasbourg is finally canceled, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

"It is with great sadness that the Vitrines de Strasbourg are forced to cancel the big clearance sale of October 3," published the association of traders on its Facebook page.

Before discussing the reasons for this choice.

Among them, the organizers point to "the increasing evolution, every day, of the resumption of the epidemic" of Covid-19.

"An uncertain development could have resulted in a cancellation 48 hours before", they write, before giving another justification related ... to the Christmas market.

“We absolutely do not want to take the risk of cluster development, and do not want anyone to take it during our event, which would risk jeopardizing the holding of the long-awaited Christmas market.

The event, whose opening date has been set for November 28, is still not officially maintained.

The city is working with the prefecture to find health and safety compromises.

In 62 years of existence, the great clearance sale had never been canceled.

It welcomes between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors each year in the streets of the city center of the Alsatian capital.
