Gabon: the mayor of Libreville jailed for corruption

In Gabon, despite an unease that prevented his questioning on Monday, September 13, the mayor of Libreville, Léandre Nzué, has finally been in prison since Tuesday.

He was placed under arrest warrant at the central prison of Libreville by the public prosecutor who indicted him among other things for embezzlement of public funds and money laundering.

For his part, the public prosecutor, André Patrick Roponat communicated for the first time the long list of charges against the mayor: " 

Information has been opened for acts of criminal association, misappropriation of public funds, money laundering, extortion, embezzlement, passive corruption, blackmail, forgery, use of forgery and complicity in forgery, in turn.

I close my remarks by indicating that the state of health of the mayor will continue to be the subject of special attention

 ”.

At the head of the town hall of the Gabonese capital for 19 months, Léandre Nzué, 63, an executive of the ruling party, is said to have embezzled more than a billion CFA francs.

He faces a heavy prison sentence.
