A document from July 12, 2012, which was commissioned by Assignment Review, states that the dictator's daughter wants $ 20 million for "protection" so that Telia in Uzbekistan will not be seized by the state.

According to interrogations conducted by American investigators with a Telia manager, the then CEO Lars Nyberg and his right-hand man - Tero Kivisaari, operations manager for the operations in the east, have sanctioned the deal in the middle of the burning bribery scandal in the autumn of 2012.

The deal must have been approved on the condition that the payments are not visible in the accounts at the head office in Stockholm - and took place at the same time as Lars Nyberg stated to the entire Swedish press corps:

- I feel convinced that TeliaSonera has not bribed anyone.

"False information"

Pulat Ahunov is one of Uzbekistan's most famous critics of the regime and has closely followed the Telia scandal.

He reacts strongly when he gets to take part in Assignment review's new information and Lars Nyberg's statements.

- They say "we have not done it", and at the same time give orders to give more money to Gulnara Karimova.

It's awful, it's hard to understand.

That's such a cynical lie.

To say that someone is lying is a very strong statement, which we are wary of.

- Yes, I understand to say that a man lies, those are strong words, but he gives false information, misleading information.

That's awful.

Telia knows the information

Telia's current General Counsel confirms for Assignment review that he recognizes the new information, from the company's own investigations.

Lars Nyberg does not want to appear in an interview with Assignment review.

Through his defense lawyers, he confirms in an email that the issue of protection reached him in the summer of 2012 - but writes that he refused to pay.

He states that he has never heard of a new transaction of 20 million dollars, and writes that neither Swedish nor American authorities have found one.

Assignment review has contacted Tero Kivisaari and Gulnara Karimova, their agents have chosen not to respond.
