The NBA has postponed the 2020 draft by one month from October 16 to November 18, which should lead to a postponement of the resumption date of the new season, so far envisaged for early December.

The North American League explained in a statement Wednesday that the new date gave it "more time" in particular to advance discussions on the salary cap which must be concluded so that the transfer period can begin.

The subject is complex because revenue projections are difficult to assess due to the coronavirus pandemic which disrupted the 2019-2020 season.

The NBA has also indicated that the new date of the draft remained "subject to change if the circumstances warrant".

The Minnesota Timberwolves have won the lottery, ahead of the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets, and will therefore have the privilege of recruiting the player of their choice.

The play-offs for the 2019-2020 season are still ongoing in the quarantine bubble set up in Orlando, Florida.
