The accident has caused at least 4 deaths, including 2 women and 2 children, and 57 refugees were rescued.

  The Greek Coast Guard officer stated that the accident site was located in the sea east of Crete.

When the accident happened, a person on the ship who claimed to be a passenger called the police, saying that the refugee ship was about to sink due to wind and waves at sea.

  According to reports, after the Greek authorities received the report, a naval frigate, two rescue helicopters, two coast guard patrol boats, and five merchant ships participated in the search and rescue operation.

At present, search and rescue personnel have successfully rescued 57 refugees and found the bodies of 4 victims in the accident area.

  The Greek Coast Guard pointed out that the police currently do not know whether anyone is missing, the survivors cannot provide the exact number of people carried when the ship sank, nor the origin and destination of the refugee ship.

The police are currently verifying the identity and nationality of the rescued refugees.
